Merpro Football Club were formed in season 1982-83 initially competing in the Montrose & District Sunday
Welfare League. The team's roots however was originally set up two years earlier under the name of Offshore
United.This side was made up of local offshore oil workers looking to have a game of organised football on their trips back
onshore. Merpro Ltd were a new Oil Service company based in Montrose and were approached by some players with regards
to sponsoring the Offshore football team. Merpro Ltd generously continued sponsorship until being bought over by
NOV in 2011. Merpro AFC decided to continue with the established name. Merpro AFC are now competing in their 33rd
season.
